The Force Unleashed Breaks Sales Record Despite Low Review Scores

By Nick De Bruyne

The Force Unleashed broke two sales records this week by becoming the fastest-selling Star Wars title as well as the fastest selling Lucasarts title in the history of the company. Despite a Metacritic average of a measly 72 (of a possible 100) for Xbox 360 and 69 for the Playstation 3 it has managed to push out a massive 1.5 million copies in it's first five days on the shelves. Not only does this give us all a good display of how powerful a brand can be, but also how brands and marketing are able to trump review scores almost every time. I reviews the game on Xbox 360 for this site and I can honestly say that I am glad that people are buying it, mostly because I think that it's a fine game and one that a casual console gamer will easily enjoy. The fact of the matter is that review scores can only go so far and to be honest, most of the consumers out there don't read game reviews. It's only the hardcore gamers that keep themselves up to date with review scores, not the casuals. In this day and age, which has gaming taking over as the largest entertainment industry we have to realise that the casuals are overtaking us regular gaming folk. Then again, how many people rush out to watch new movies without taking a look at the review scores either, I know I do. Games cost a ton more than movie tickets though, which means that an impulse-buy could sting significantly more if the game is not all that you had hoped.

Mirror's Edge Demo Available Today?

MirrorsEdge1.jpg Mirror's Edge, the interesting and strange take on first person games is set to hit shelves on November 11. With the crazy season of games releases coming our way, most of us are going to be holding back our cash for all the games that we really want. Good news is, that according to digitalgames.fr, the Mirror's Edge demo will be hitting XBL as well as PSN today and is reported to be enough of an experience for interested gamers to get a feel for the controls and the gameplay. This game has caught my attention but at the same time I fall into the category of gamers who just isn't sure whether or not it's going to be worth my money, so the demo will post probably make or break it for me. I really hope that they have put their best foot forward on this one.

Army of Two actually did very well

Army of Two was possibly my first highly anticipated game since I started with this site. It is a game that has brought me a lot of flak and was the first title in a long line of Lazygamer expectations that were critically slammed. Even if the majority of critics didn’t like this game I still did and I am …

So it appears that Bungie does in fact have a sense of humour, at exactly 7:07 they released a teaser from their teaser page… But wait a minute… why did they do this at 7:07 and not any normal time like 6:30 or 7:00? Well take 7:07 and flip it upside down and you get the famous LOL… which as …

Jack Thompson Disbarred… Everyone celebrates

The infamous (ex)attorney Jack Thimpson has been disbarred by the Florida Bar Association without leave to appeal. In other words Jack now cannot practice law again, ever… You can see all the court document over at Joystiq, but it seems that Jack’s incoherent ramblings became to much to handle. I have to say I feel a little sorry for the …

I was trawling through the Gametrailers site to try and find a nice conversion of that Halo 3 teaser trailer… instead however I found a new LBP trailer. This trailer doesn’t show us anything new but it’s cute and I love the humour so I just had to share… Last Updated: September 25, 2008

Xbox 360 Live Your Moment… Your what?

By Gavin Mannion

It seems that Microsoft didn’t want to be left behind in the stupid advertising race and has now released one of their own. Apparently this is the first in a long line, of hopefully better, adverts aimed specifically at the European market. We think they are advertising Rock Band and the Xbox 360 here but in all honesty they could …
