MotorStorm Pacific Rift

MotorStorm was arguably the best PS3 launch title… okay Resistance most probably takes that crown but if you didn’t like FPS games then this was the one to have. Well the sequel is now coming out (7th October) and it is looking fine. I wonder what would happen if I strap a booster onto my bike and take it down …

Piracy. Why even hide it?

By Nick De Bruyne

piracybillboard.jpg So this weekend myself and my wife went to go visit her mother for the weekend in Smallville (aka Klerksdorp, North West Province) and I found this rather large sign happily sitting on a wall as we entered the small city. I decided to snap a quick photo with my phone so excuse the quality. Wow! I thought. Why even bother being careful about piracy anymore? Just put a huge sign up to advertise that you can help people pirate games. It's actually disgusting that businesses like this get away with doing things like this so openly. You may think it's irrelevant in the whole scheme of things, but if you do I would strongly disagree. How many small towns are there in the world? A ton. All of them combined (especially in America) probably make up a huge amount of business for the gaming industry. With many small towns promoting piracy so brazenly it only makes you wonder how much money is not going back into the gaming industry. Isn't it so nice that they even used an official Playstation logo and everything.

Question of the Week: Your scariest gaming experience ever

By Nick De Bruyne

Greetings boys and girls and welcome back to another horrible Monday at work, another week of office drudgery and indeed another week of gaming. To make Mondays seem a little brighter for everyone I have decided to make Monday the official host of our new Question of the Week section. What this is is pretty simple. We ask a question every week, usually involving gaming experiences and fun stuff. There will be nothing serious here to dampen your day so get ready to share your campfire stories. This section relies on you our readers to let give us your answers and opinions, tell us your stories and open up topics for discussion. If you are one of those people who have always been too shy to comment, or just purely not bothered, now is the time to speak up and tell us of your experience because to sweeten the deal and kick off the new section I have organised some prizes. We have very recently had a "comment spam" competition and we just happen to have an extra copy of Bioshock (PC) and DMC4 (Xbox 360) lying around which I have organised as prizes for this week. We will pick the two best, funniest or interesting stories and the winners will be announced next week (maybe sooner). This weeks question is of course: What has been your scariest gaming experience ever? I myself have been the victim of many a pant-wetting experience, from playing Friday the 13th on my 8-bit when I was but a child to having the living daylights scared out of me recently in Condemned 2. What experience have you had that has left an imprint on your gaming life and of indeed, your underpants. The type that had you going outside for ten minutes just to catch your breath again.... To avoid spoilers for other gamers, I suggest that you begin your comment with the title of the game first so that if someone hasn't played it or finished it yet they can just skip to the next one.] If you have any questions that you want to suggest for our question of the week feel free to email me at nick@lazygamer.co.za .

Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway – Developer Video

By Nick De Bruyne

It seemed pretty clear to me from the word go that Brothers in Arms is not quite the same as games like Call of Duty and Medal of Honour. It definitely takes a pretty different approach, especially with regards to the command system so I don't know if I should think of it as the same type of game. When not looked at as a contender to COD, I think that this game is shaping up quite well. I never really got into the previous BIA game but this could hold my attention a lot more. The new gore system in this game is pretty crazy, but at the same time its something that I feel necessary and to be quite honest it's about time that we see something like this. If you haven't yet watched the video or can't at work, let me explain. When soldiers are hit with explosives the gore system will try and simulate any dismemberment or damage caused by the blast (and will usually slow down to show the gory details in slow motion). "Brother without Arms" maybe? While I think that the slow motion camera is pretty unnecessary and hopefully optional, I find that it is more engrossing to see effects like this because it captures the severity and realism of explosive weapons in a realistic light. The video also goes on to talk about the use of tactics as well as what they have done to engross the player in the experience. Check it out, it may just be your cup of tea.

Skate It – Balance Board Demo

By Nick De Bruyne

This video marks the first time that we see how the Nintendo Balance board is going to work in the Nintendo Wii version of the newly popular Skate franchise. Although they discuss how the balance board works they have actually done very little to explain how all the tricks are actually going to work. They explain that by leaning back on the board you will ollie and by leaning on the front you would perform a nollie. I somehow doubt that a 360 flip will require you to do something similar to an advanced level of Dance Dance Revolution. My guess is that the ollie will be performed with the board and then the trick itself will be performed by flicking the wiimote. Either way this could prove to be a lot of fun and the balance board will add an interesting element to you balance in grinds and manuals. I hope they don't mess this up because I actually think that they may be onto something here.

[Update] Megarom has just confirmed that we will be getting Far Cry 2 on the 24th as well…  Thanks guys 24th of October is when Far Cry 2 is scheduled to now land… to me that’s a little close to the Gears 2 release date and is, in my mind, a little risky from Ubisoft’s point of view. However I …

Remember a while back when we reported that the Ghostbusters had been put on hold thanks to the Activision/Blizzard merger? Well fast forward a month and we are in exactly the same spot… No one has come to save ether Ghostbusters or the 50 cent game… Though the latter is not surprising. However the Ghostbusters one is very worrying now …
