NBA 2K19 is another impressive outing from Visual Concepts and 2K with just about everything you can think of included. It’s a real shame that there is still a heavy reliance on purchasing VC in the modes that matter, but it’s plausible to play without giving in to the temptation. Aside from the microtransactions and occasionally tedious load times NBA 2K19 has all the modes, polish, challenges and value you’ve come to expect from the franchise. It’s the annual release that truly lasts a year and if you’re a fan, there should be no doubt as to whether or not you should get this year’s game.

NBA 2K19 is out today, and by all accounts is a very good basketball game – just as it is every year. Unfortunately, every year there seems to be some or other server issues or technical glitch that makes players angry. Right now, there’s a maelstrom of complaints about the game’s Virtual Currency – or VC. May say that instead of the 100 000 VC they were promised, they're stuck with -1 VC

We told you earlier this year that EA had lost the rights to the PGA Golf licence, which had now gone over to Rugby 15 developer HB Studios. While I may have been a bit disparaging then, I’ve been reliably told (off) that their The Golf Club series is excellent. In fact, it’s so good that it now has the might of publisher 2K Games behind it.

For the first time in years, the highlight reel of Showcase mode is returning. Who will headline that main event in WWE 2K19? None other than the yes man himself, Daniel Bryan.

WWE 2K19 is pulling an ol’ Mortal Kombat this year, as it introduces Towers to the series. Basically a gauntlet of matches, Towers have their own themes and require players to hit certain milestones during their run.

Last year, 2K Sports faced a fair bit of backlash over its egregious monetisation in NBA 2K18. Rightly so! While the game itself may have been fantastic, it was a microtransactional nightmare, charging players real-world money for things as simple as haircuts. It didn’t take long for 2K to change the pricing of its slow-to-earn Virtual Currency after the backlash.

Evolve has been limping on since its 2015 debut, and it looks like 2K Games is finally ready to take the game out to a shed and Old Yeller it.

The Xbox One backwards compatibility library grew this week, with two new additions added to the mix. First up, was one of the last great games from 3D Realms in the form of the gloriously gory gravity-tripper Prey. Originally released in 2006, it was the kind of shooter that would have you hurling chunks for all the right reasons. The real gem though, is 2010’s Mafia 2.
