On March 27, Detective Comics kicks off its monumental one thousandth issue with a series of short stories that will be crammed into a 96-page celebration of the dark knight.

There’s a new threat brewing the DC Universe, only this time it isn’t a case of inconceivable power leaking through the broken Source wall or a clash of multiversal energies. One of the most dangerous criminal organisations on the planet is readying itself for a return to the prime time, and has the entire superhero community on notice.

Superman is still a hero who can do more than just stop a locomotive from going off the tracks or introducing a Lex Luthor killbot to the surface of the sun Over the years, Superman has been redefined as a beacon of hope, a hero who reminds us that we can all be better people and symbols to those around us. Elements which you’ll see plenty of in Brian Michael Bendis’ run that kicks off in the Man of Steel mini-series, before moving on to the core Superman and Action Comics titles.

While the traditional Supeman costume was still largely intact, it had been modernised. A higher collar, more seam lines and a complete absence of the signature underoos that Superman had worn for decades. Further tweaks would be applied to the super-suit, but the red trunks would remain absent through all of these alterations. Until now that is, as Superman is finally getting his underwear back.

After decades of being one of the main architects behind the Marvel comic book universe, Brian Michael Bendis recently shocked the world by moving to DC Comics. However, it looks like the writer is not done playing with these Marvel-ous characters quite yet.

In April, as the mystery of Stark’s disappearance will be solved when the original Iron Man returns to action in Invincible Iron Man #599.

When it comes to Marvel, there’s no one writer who has had as much of an impact since Stan Lee joined forces with the likes of Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko to breath new life into the industry in the 1960s, than Brian Michael Bendis. Bendis was Marvel. Emphasis on was, because Bendis has now traded the house of ideas for the distinguished competition. In a shock announcement yesterday, DC Comics has managed to sign Bendis to an exclusive deal, thus ending his run at Marvel.
