Hot off the heels of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Marvel’s Avengers being delayed, CD Projekt Red confirmed today that Cyberpunk 2077 won’t make its original April release date either. Due for a drop on April 16, Cyberpunk 2077 will now be released on September 17.

Gwent, the card game made famous by being a diversion in The Witcher 3 was spun out into its own thing. A successful card game in its own right, Gwent was released on PC and later, consoles, as a standalone game. Now, just a year after its console launch, CD Projekt RED is pulling the plug on that version of the game.

With several years of development, hype and a commitment to creating good games as opposed to glorified adverts for microtransactions, there’s an expectation that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to do stupidly well when it arrives next year.

There’s a ton of detail in any given screenshot for Cyberpunk 2077, thanks to Night City being a den of corruption where money talks and post-human surgery is the only way to get ahead in life. That, and having a few extra upgrades along the way doesn’t hurt too much either. Over at PAX Australia, new gameplay was shown off behind closed doors, with attendees getting to see a chunk of action that made fine use of protagonist V’s new skill: Demon Software.

If you’d told me a couple of years ago that I’d one day take The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt on the road with me and not have to technically justify (the best kind of correct!) that is was a mobile game because I’d hooked up my TV and console to a petrol generator, I’d have laughed in your face. But lo and behold, through some sort of sorcery, CDPR has done the impossible.

While CD Projekt Red have hinted in the past that they’d be open to the idea of taking their upcoming title into the online realm of PvP and other social interactions, that was just it. It was an idea, a thought that there was no real form commitment to. Until today that is, as the developer have officially announced that Cyberpunk 2077 will receive multiplayer content after launch and once the DLC has wrapped up.
