Are you wanting more concrete hands-on time before you make a decision on The Division 2 because FOMO can go eat a sausage? Well you’re definitely smarter than I am. Fortunately, just in case you missed out on the private beta, you can hop into an open beta from March 1 to March 4. Here’s a breakdown on what you need to know about it.

Coming off of February’s big-budget releases, March kind of feels like a tamer month in comparison. That’s not to say that there aren’t some high-profile releases on the way (Think Devil May Cry, The Division 2 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice), but the spacing between these games feels…better. On the other hand, indie games are thriving in March.

The Division 2 isn’t exactly an easy game. Sure, actual strategy, patience and knowing when to push forward are all tools for success, but nothing beats having an actual partner to watch your back when a fight gets a little too hectic and you find yourself in need of some resuscitation. While you can expect to have plenty of drop in options available whenever you tackle a mission, ensuring that you have a steady supply of rando agents to take cover behind, using your friend as a bullet-sponge is always better.

The Division 2 is shaping up to be a hell of a long ride, with a story that could easily last many dozens of hours until you break cover and reach the finish line. And that’s when the real game begins.

Massive Entertainment doesn’t just want to create another game as a service. They want The Division 2 to be a proper hobby, and a partnership for fans to become invested in.

The original Division was a third-person adventure with a mix of cover, stats and good ol’ role-playing elements for extra points, there was a lot to emotionally invest in when it came to constructing how your character operated within New York City and its Dark Zones. A few years later and we’re at the doors of sequel territory, with The Division 2 featuring more subtle changes to its formula while still retaining the feel and handling of the original.

The Division 2 happens to be out in March, but if you were looking for a headstart, then February has you covered with a private beta. Again, that’s not the name and rank of a soldier. So what’s on the menu for that slice of cover-based RPG madness? According to Ubisoft, a lot.

A private beta for The Division 2 kicks off on February 7 and runs until February 10, if you happen to have pre-ordered the game. If you haven’t, because you’re a 2010s video gamer who has been through all of this before maaaaaaaan, you can still stand a chance to hop in to the beta by registering for it. If there’s enough space, that is.
