I don’t think it’s a secret that I am a huge Dwayne Johnson fan, so I’m obviously excited to have Skyscraper open in cinemas this week. It’s also a good thing because the only other movie opening this week is, well, not good…

There’s a strange theme tying all the movies opening in cinemas today together: it’s all about the animal kingdom. Thankfully, only one of the movies smells like animal by-product, the rest are certified fresh-smelling and worth the watch!  

It's a very random mix of arbitrary movies opening in cinemas today. There's a comedy with a fair amount of action, an action movie that's inadvertantly a comedy, and a teen rom-com about getting some action. 

Between isles, oceans and Aquaman, I was trying to come up with some water-themed puns for this week's Movies out Today intro, but alas. Everything I could think of wouldn't float.

Two long-awaited sequels finally arrive in cinemas this week, with a combined 31-year wait time! Sadly, only one of those has lived up to the hype.

Besides for the latest entry in the Jurassic Park/World/Universe film franchise, there is literally nothing else worth noting this week. Seriously. 

After three weeks’ worth of massive blockbuster movies opening on circuit, it’s actually kind of nice to have a chilled weekend for a little downtime before the next round of blockbusters open in South Africa.

There were few movies willing to go head to head with a Star Wars release this week, but the ones that were brave enough are still worth a look in.
