Cross-platform play is a thing now, thanks to Sony finally opening the gates of their walled garden a little. In a recent earnings call, Ubibos Yves Guillemot said that the company planned to add the feature to every one of its existing games with PvP.

When Rainbow Six Siege was first announced, many older Rainbow Six players were upset that the game seemed to focus entirely around PvP multiplayer. That may actually have turned out for the best, because even though it seemed like Rainbow Six Siege was released to die, Ubisoft did what Ubisoft does, and supported it extensively, delivering one of the best tactical multiplayer shooters of the generation. The game is still getting substantial support, and – aside from an often toxic player base – is still worth playing.

Detailed in Operation: Let’s Get Some O’ That Sweet Sweet Chinese Cash, Ubisoft explained earlier this month how Rainbow Six Siege would be toning down its environments by removing any reference that contained blood, sex or gambling within it, lest the Chinese censors cross their arms and refuse to classify the game for release within the borders of that nation. That mission has been aborted, I repeat abort the mission.

Though the country’s put a hold on the games that can be approved for sale in the region, China’s become an enticing market for a lot of publishers. When they’re able to sell their games in the country, there’s an opportunity to sell to millions upon millions more eager costumers. Video game publishers have discovered, just like the film industry did, that it’s often worth pandering to the Chinese and other conservative South East Asian markets.
