If ever you needed a poster child for big budget gaming with a trio of As done right, then GTA V is the benchmark that all games wish to surpass. Only problem? It’s looking highly likely that GTA V’s position as a $6 billion highest selling form of entertainment will ever be toppled. Not even by GTA itself or even the old west in the form of Red Dead Redemption 2.
According to Ubisoft, Far Cry 5 is now the fastest selling game in the series, the second biggest launch for an Ubisoft game and has so far managed to rake in over $310 million in sales from both physical and digital units being moved.
Despite what might have been expected, Micrsoft's Games Pass isn't stealing away business from traditional games sales. Or at least Sea of Thieves is proving to be a strange first anomaly.
If Capcom wanted to start the day off on a good note, then here’s a piece of good news that currently has the suits in company pouring champagne and making it rain with dollar bills: Monster Hunter World is doing well. Damn well.
To date, the system has sold over 15 million units, which isn’t at all bad for an underpowered hybrid system that people didn’t think they wanted. There are still holdouts though. People who want a Switch, but are waiting for the inevitable hardware revision before making their purchase. Don’t hold your collective breath.
