Naughty Dog is shutting down PS3 Uncharted and The Last of Us servers for good

I can’t imagine there are too many people still playing on them, but the handful who are will be saddened to hear that Naughty Dog will be shutting down the servers for its PlayStation 3 games. That means the multiplayer bits of PlayStation 3 classics Uncharted 2 and 3 and The Last of Us will no longer work after the switch gets flicked on Tuesday, September 3, at 5 PM PT.

Driveclub’s servers are being shut down next year

For a game that was billed as a connected experience, not having working servers for months after launch was a bit of a death knell, and the game never really managed to get the time in the limelight it deserved. Eventually, everything was patched up, the game was updated and the servers worked as intended. Unfortunately for the handful of players still clinging to its original promises, the servers will be shut off next year. The game, its VR mode and the bikes expansions will also be delisted in a few months.

A trio of timed in-game nukes seems to have nuked Fallout 76’s servers

Players can scrounge around for nuke launch codes, and once they’ve hit the requisites they can launch great big destructive bombs. Doing so irradiates the target site and unleashes mutated monsters like the Scorchbeast Queen, but also uncovers high-level equipment for scrounging. A group of players decided to see what happens if they simultaneous launched nukes from all three available silos to a single site.

Getting multiplayer servers set up for games is a challenge, on top of all the work that goes into making games themselves. There’s an awful lot to contemplate, including the type of hardware, how many players to expect, the sorts of matchmaking types to support and an awful lot more. It’s why dedicated servers that run in the cloud – on systems like Amazon’s Web Services and Microsoft’s Azure. Microsoft wants even more developers to use Azure.
