The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy was released last year, exclusive to Sony’s PlayStation 4. One of the best remasters of modern times, the trio of classic games received completely new art, effects and audio. It turned one of the most beloved PlayStation series into something resembling a modern game – with its old-school, crushing difficulty left intact. Itr'll be on PC, Xbox One and Switch on June 29

Nintendo’s Switch is a lovely bit of hardware, but it’s far from perfect. Beyond the fact that you still can’t back your goddamned save games up, there are a few hardware design decisions that boggle.

Nintendo is finally giving Switch users a way to backup saves, but they're locking it behind an additional purchase. And some Switch fans have had enough.

Every system since the Wii has had Virtual console in some form, allowing owners to buy games for older consoles to play on their new ones. Before the Switch was released, rumours and murmurs suggested that we’d see Gamecube games on the Switch. It doesn’t look like a Virtual Console is happening. At least, not like the Virtual Console we’ve come to know.

Broforce, the incredible little game from South African developer Free Lives was a smash hit on PC, eventually making its way to the PlayStation 4. Unfortunately, the PS4 version, lacked the features and updates found in the Steam version, and ran a bit poorly. With a choppy framerate, long load times and online lag, it just wasn’t the best way to play the game. It's just received a giant patch - along with a hint at a new platform.

The optional Pro controller for the Nintendo Switch is one of the best controllers you’ll find. It has an asymmetrical analogue stick design (like all good controllers should), has great battery life, a passable d-Pad, fantastic vibration and it just feels great. It now has native support in Steam.

With E3 around the corner, May is usually more barren than my fan club on any given day. That’s not to say that there aren’t any games coming out, but the biggest guns are usually reserved for the months following the annual gaming extravaganza. Where one side of the industry refrains from going all out, another side takes the opposite approach as this year’s May-day celebration is crammed to say the least.

There's no dedicated FIFA World Cup game this year from Electronic Arts, but there is a free patch for FIFA 18 that'll dress the footie simulator up in the colours of your favourite national team. That's kind of nice.
