Joss Whedon is quite clearly trying to challenge Samuel L Jackson for the crown of Busiest Man in Hollywood. Not content with just writing and directing The Avengers – one of the biggest films of the year, and arguably the biggest superhero film of all time – he simultaneously shot an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. And now it’s been revealed by …
A double feature here, so to speak. First up, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, in which we can now see what a pre-CGI Andy Serkis looks like when he was “acting” out the role of Caesar. His co-star, James Franco, has been calling for an Oscar nomination for Serkis’ motion capture performance, which was always going to be …
Vampires suck. No, I’m not talking about the obvious or a terrible parody film on the Twilight series (Although I do blame that franchise for a sudden decline in awesome Nosferatu films). With Vampires now seen as romantic soulless denizens of the night, all the mystery, intrigue and terror of the myth has been wiped away quicker than my salary …
Paul Verhoeven’s original 1990 adaptation of the Philip K. Dick novel, “We can remember it for you wholesale” is a deserved cult favourite. It had an intriguing premise, original story and characters, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s vintage one-liners and a woman with 3 breasts. What’s not to love? Earlier last year, we got word that Len Wiseman (Underworld, Die Hard 4.0) is …
I’m not a fan of Romantic Comedies – well, except dry-witted English ones starring a doped up Bill Nighy – yet, just like other married man, it’s inevitable that I will get dragged to see a couple of them a year. So I sit there and gnash my teeth as the film inevitably devolves into nothing but cliche’d lines and …
At first glance, sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour sounds like it could be a bit of alright. The film refreshingly removes the “When Aliens Attack” action from the United States and transplants it to Moscow instead, for shots of an imposing city that cinema audiences rarely get to see on-screen. The plot also sounds intriguing – in The Darkest …
Believe it or not, ol’ Rubberface, Jim Carrey celebrates his 50th birthday today! With movies such as The Mask, Ace Ventura, Dumb and Dumber and Liar Liar, the wonderfully expressive comedy master has left an indelible mark on pop culture. In celebration of his half century, here’s some interesting and not well known factoids about the man, that the …
If you’ve been anxiously awaiting proof that they Mayans had it right and that we are now truly living in the End Times, then this is it. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that production studio Lionsgate Entertainment may go ahead with more sequels in the Twilight saga, despite author Stephanie Meyer not having penned any more novels to adapt. Lionsgate …
A spooky European village. Properly scary castle mania. Vampires. Werewolves! The only thing more frightening, is a glimpse at your empty bank account when it comes to deciding whether or not you can grab Resident Evil Village this month. Capcom's successor to its long-running survival-horror franchise is finally out, and if you've read our review then you know the game is a winner on multiple levels.
