The Last of Us Part II may be a no-show for the forseeable future, but that doesn’t mean that the 2020 gaming year is cancelled! Far from it in fact, as indie games are stepping up to fill that void. With most consumers totally fine with owning a digital version of a game provided that it doesn’t break the piggy bank, indie games are your best bet right now for consistent gaming entertainment that does a little out of the box thinking.

May 29 was the day that fans of Sony and developer Naughty Dog were eagerly waiting for. A day that would allow them to finally return to a strange post-apocalypse, a not too distant future where mushrooms had taken over the planet and anyone who had survived the spore scourge in this twisted new world had become a bit of a bastard. You might have to wait a little bit longer to go back to that world.

People Can Fly’s next game finally gives the most primal element a chance to shine in Outriders with a class-type dedicated towards setting all the things on fire. Called the Pyromancer, this class sets itself apart from the Devastator and Trickster by not only unleashing blisteringly hot flames but can also manipulate that element to set up barriers and traps.

It’s competent remaster, giving a decade-old game a suitable level of spit-and-polish. While Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’s campaign has been given a significant graphical overhaul, but its corridor-shooter structure and worn animation give its age away. Nostalgic fans of the series might get a kick, but the barebones remaster isn’t a fantastic value proposition for anybody else.

While other publishers are no doubt evaluating the value of hosting livestreams to show off their latest games, Bethesda has given the idea a resounding hard pass.

I think it’s safe to say that Borderlands 3 was a hit. The core game was an addictive grind of loot ‘n shoot fun that sold five million copies in the first week, the DLC has been a welcome extension of the formula and the fandom is very very happy right now. A pity the same can’t be said for the people who made Borderlands 3, as it looks like all their hard work has resulted in them being absolutely stiffed come bonus day.

Awakening as an empty vessel, you will enter into a shattered and twisted world where the remains of humanity wither and rot. Implored to do the bidding of the mysterious “Dark Father,” you must traverse this tattered landscape and track down hidden sanctums of devout followers. There, in Mortal Shell’s most hallowed grounds, you must overcome formidable foes and harvest the sacred glands.

With Half-Life: Alyx done, Valve’s ready to give Artifact a second chance, ushering in changes that’ll shape a relaunch of the game. Called Artifact 2.0, Valve has plenty to tweak and tinker with, focusing on retooling the game to actually be worth sinking some time and effort into.
