Days Gone is, from what I’ve played of it, not a very good game. Sony’s very good at making sure that its first party games are good though, which is probably why they’re taking feedback from shows like E3 and internal testing, and giving Days Gone a bit of polish.

Sony is skipping a 2018 showcase of various upcoming games, for reasons. The primary one? They just don’t have enough content to show off and justify the annual extravaganza.

What Days Gone does have going for it, are its Freakers. Disgusting remnants of humanity with a taste for flesh, Freakers are rabid dogs who need to be put down whenever they get a whiff of your scent. On their own, they're trouble. But in a group? They're a near-unstoppable homicidal herd.

Sony is taking a more detailed approach this year in response, detailing the big five games that’ll be console tent pole titles for the months to come.
