Monster Hunter: World isn’t going to hold your hand for very long when it introduces its core elements to newcomers. This is still very much a game built on legacy and entries of the past, that refuses to compromise all of that effort in favour of more accessible gameplay.

Ghost of Tsushima has all the right ingredients so far: A studio that knows what it’s doing, an interesting angle and a sandbox that has seldom been explored in this industry. It’s going to be a tortorous wait for Sucker Punch to release this game.

After the likes of Ruroini Kenshin and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, one other iconic Shonen manga is getting the live-action treatment: Bleach. Here’s a brief trailer for it, which is so sweet on the Shinigami and Zanpakuto action.

Gundam isn’t just a swell collection of anime series (Turn A Gundam and the 13th MS Team being two of my favourite underrated classics), its also made a natural transition to video games over the years with numerous titles. It’s making a comeback in the west this year, as the first true Gundam game in many a year is busting out of Japanese arcades and is headed to PlayStation 4 on September 29.

For a launch title, Knack was…well it wasn’t bad. It had plenty of charm and it looked stunning at the time, but the game suffered from a few atrocious flaws that prevented it from being an instant classic. A sequel would be welcome, provided that a few fundamental improvements were made over at PlayStation’s Japan Studio. Ideas and improvements that the team behind Knack 2 wanted in the first game but couldn’t manage the first time around.

The quality started dipping, innovation was chucked out the window and everyone wanted to make a quick Yen on the mobile market. That resulted in a period of stagnation for Japanese-developed games. An era of shoddiness that Sony wants to do away.

Publisher Koei-Tecmo has enough faith in this latest entry of Dynasty Warriors which they call the “most ambitious entry to date,” to give it that translation push. Unlike other games in the series, Dynasty Warriors 9 is going full-on open-world so that players can “experience history across a multitude of perspectives and battles throughout the whole of China.”

By Japan and the USA, I kind of mean MegaBots Inc. from the nation of the Trumped and Suidoboshi Heavy Industries from the land of the rising sun. For months now, the two companies have been engaging in some friendly banter over whose robot happens to the bigger, badder piece of real steel.
