Nintendo’s Switch is a lovely little device that’s perfect for full fat, on-the-go gaming. Surprisingly, it doesn’t really function well for anything beyond that, thanks to a dearth of entertainment and media apps. While the system does have its own Hulu app (along with Niconico in Japan), standard media apps like Netflix and YouTube are conspicuously absent. That’s apparently changing
Dark Souls on the Nintendo Switch is a really good port, and sure there were definite compromises made but it runs really well on the console and is still the same experience we all know and love; only now you can play it wherever you go. I’m really glad it turned out this well because it managed to make me fall in love with this game all over again.

The Toys to Life genre is effectively dead. While Nintendo is still selling Amiibo by the truckload, they’re more popular for their collectability than for anything they do in games. The franchise that popularised it all, Skylanders, is on indefinite hiatus. Both Disney Infinity and LEGO Dimensions were cancelled – so Ubisoft’s late entry into the segment is curious. That game is Starlink: Battle for Atlas, a new release that has players mounting spaceships on their controllers, bringing the changes they make to those ships to life in the game.
With the impending release of Diablo III for Nintendo’s Switch and Sony’s loosening of cross-play restrictions, many hoped that it would signal the beginning of cross-platform play in the hack-and-slash RPG. Nope!
I do hope there’s more to come from FIFA in the years ahead, but for now it’s more of a fun-to-have rather than a must-have for Nintendo Switch owners.
