The Witcher was initially released for the PC and was met with positive results (81/100 on Metacritic). The devolopers, CD Projekt Red recently announced that a console version subtitled Rise of the White Wolf, for the Xbox 360 and PS3 is in the works and promises to have new engine, streamlined combat, character models, animations as well as a more dynamic combat system. A trailer has just been released and while it doesn't show any footage of the actual gameplay it does a good job of setting the tone for what console gamers can expect. The game is set to be released on consoles somewhere around our spring in 2009 so if you are looking for an engaging action RPG that offers between 40 - 50 hours of gameplay at that time, this may very well be worth your money.

A guy who goes by the name of Robbie Cooper has been working on a rather interesting project that goes by the name of "Project Immersion". What he has done is project games onto a large camera lens so that he can film children playing video games whilst having them stare directly at the camera. Testing the children with different titles such as Call of Duty, Halo 3, Tekken, GTA IV and Star Wars: Battlefront, he has created a means to really study the different types of reactions and facial expressions that are generated whilst playing the games. The video is quite intriguing to say the least due to the fact that you have the children staring straight at you and the pull and immersion of the games is incredibly evident, although some of the faces will just make you laugh. [WARNING: Excessive use of bad language and violence against common household items] Anyone who has had a taste of online gaming will know that there are some seriously strange people out there. Join any American game however and you will usually be treated to an absolute barrage of high-pitched, whiny, disrespectful little monsters who do nothing but scream and shout about how they are going to own you and how everytime you owned them was only because of lag, luck or a whatever else they can think of. I have posted a video after the jump that is not what I would call "office friendly" as it involves a young american kid who has possibly the worst anger management problem that I have ever seen and his language will not impress your boss, so you have been warned. It really got me wondering about these kids, at the risk of sounding like all of our parents I ask: What has happened to the kids of today? ...The guy above might seem a little familiar to you, it's because there was a previous video up a while back of him playing Halo 3.... Games are supposed to be about having fun but it seems that so many people have just gotten so obsessed with proving their amazing skills that the concept of gaming for fun seems to be lost altogether. It's a sad day to see a young person having such an incredibly bad time with a game when we all know that we should all be relaxing and enjoying it.... He spills coke, further breaks his headset, cracks his Halo 3 poster and in what must be the most amazing moment of self-pwnage, actually manages to get the microphone of his headset shoved halfway down his throat (See it to believe it - 5min 18 secs in).... I myself have been having some frustration problems with control schemes and online issues with some of the more recent games but to take it out like these guys do is utterly ridiculous.... This sort of play is getting out of hand to the point that there are a few games that I have at the moment that I am playing online with public international matches because I am so tired of the guys who want nothing but to win, that I would rather suffer with a second of lag and play with a bunch of Japanese folks who just want to have some fun. It really does make a statement that I would rather play with people that I don't understand, with a second of lag, rather than have to sit through round after round of players who only use cheap tactics, camping and assorted other methods so that they can top the scoreboards. Thanks to all of those people, I just stopped playing a lot of the games that I really enjoyed and have now resorted to only playing with close friends that I know I can relax with.... It means that if I want to play online with random people, I don't get to choose between the hardcore no-fun bunch or the relaxed games just trying to have some fun. So the next time you are playing a game and being a douche-bag, try to remember that it's all about having fun. If your concept of fun is sitting in a corner surrounded by trip mines, up a hill with a sniper rifle and every sort of cheap trick you can think of to get to the top of the scoreboards, then you need to have a slap sent your way because nobody likes it and no one will go to be thinking about how cool you are.

In May of this year, we posted an article that said that Amazon.com has God of War III listed with a March 2009 release date. Problem is that a bit of information may have been leaking in the form of a listing on the internet movie database (IMDB) website. Since the announcement of God of War III, no official mention has yet been made of when games can expect to actually be playing it. A slip on IMDB may however, have more of answer for us than Sony does. On the page of Terence (T.C) Carson, the voice actor for Kratos, a new project has been added. Yup, you guessed it, God of War III. Now as is always standard practice on IMDB, the year of the game, TV show or movie title is always put in brackets next to the project. According to the information on IMDB, the title is set for 2010 and is "in production". If the information is correct then it looks like we may have to wait for more than a year to be able to go on Kratos's next adventure. The only thing we can hope for is that the game could be set for a March/April release but we all know that publishers like to aim for the Christmas season and if that is true, the wait for God of War III could possibly still be another 2 years from now. That is a very, very long time.

Just yesterday, we posted a head to head between Gears of War 2 and Halo 3 from IGN that asked the question of which one of the two huge Xbox 360 exclusives was the absolute must-have for the system. For anyone who missed it and doesn't feel like going back to watch the video, Halo 3 won. Many will argue that Gears of War 2 is the better game but the latest statistics from Xbox Live are saying quite the opposite. While the full list is posted after the jump, let me lay things out for you. Firstly, this list shows what people have been playing while connected to Live, not how many people were playing the games multiplayer modes on Xbox Live so make a note of that. The results, especially after this recent gaming season, are astounding. Ok , so here is the list: Halo 3 Gear of War 2 CoD: World at War GTA IV Fable II Left 4 Dead Madden NFL 09 Fallout 3 FIFA 09 Now here is the amazing thing, even though we have just been through arguably the best gaming release season of all time, the hugely popular multiplayer modes found in both Gears of War 2 and even Call of Duty: World at War could not take the number 1 spot from the (already over a year old) phenomenon that is Halo 3. That means that even though there was a large number of people playing Call of Duty and Gears of War's single player campaign as well as multiplayer modes (including the incredibly addictive Gears of War 2 semi co-op experience, Horde), Halo 3 still took the top spot with what can now only be people who are still playing the multiplayer. While South Africans never really caught on to Halo 3 like the Americans did, we have to appreciate that Bungie must have done something very right to still have the top spot over all this time. Call of Duty 4 is sitting just below Call of Duty: World at War, meaning that while there are still a lot of players who prefer last years offering, World at War is still making quite an impact on the world, regardless of the fact that Treyarch were at the helm. Just seeing this is almost making me want to go back and play some more Halo 3 multiplayer just to try and see if I can see what all the fuss is about. Honorable mentions come in with Left 4 Dead which is proving to be a massively fun multiplayer experience as well as GTA IV considering it's age and even Fallout 3 considering that it doesn't have any multiplayer. I want to make a mention of Fable II as well although I think that if it's co-op multiplayer had been better, it might have made more of an impact.
