Chronos: Before the Ashes is an interesting collection of ideas, but dead average implementation, aging visuals, and flawed gameplay makes for an underwhelming package that barely rises above being just fine at best.

Video games are a timesink, lengthy campaigns that last far beyond launch week. In an age where many a developer wants a single game to provide months if not years of live service content that continues to bring in revenue, only a few games really prove to be worth the time and investment that the crowded genre demands.

There Raiden shall lie for the years to come, plastered over by more adverts and sleeping like an Arthurian legend, waiting for gaming’s darkest hour to come and rising up to meet it with Metal Gear Rising 2: Die Hard With a Revengeance. When video games need him the most, the giant handsome robot man will return.

While 2020 certainly didn’t need any more horrific moments to carry us through the year, sometimes it’s just nice being scared by something that’s not reality. That’s why we turned to a pantheon of horror games, to maybe remind us that things could always be worse.

Fortnite’s been on another tear as of late, thanks in part to its fourth season receiving a healthy injection of the Marvel universe. Microsoft has a few ace offerings being added to its Game Pass service, a smattering of games that will consume your hours and finally allow you to fuse with your chair in an unholy union of fibers and butt.

The colonial fantasy game many assumed to be a one and done effort is seemingly becoming even bigger than it already was. Hopefully they make it less boring this time.

It has been a terrific year for strategy games, as the gaming industry has buckled down on interactive experiences where you have to use that lump of grey matter that pilots the meat machine you call a body. From retro revivals to brand new stabs at tactical action that allow for more mainstream appeal, being able to outthink your opponents has never been more enjoyable no matter which platform you’re playing on.
