A MAZE Johannesburg is kicking off in just a few weeks time, promising another fascinating festival of experimental games, insightful talks and independant development culture.

There was no Assassin’s Creed last year, and that’s probably a good thing. The franchise wasn’t just on the verge of growing stale, it was hanging from the edge; a single strained pinkie finger keeping it from falling. That break has done the series a world of good. We got to go hands on with Assassin’s Creed Origins quite extensively at E3, and it was fantastic. We’ve now played the Gamescom demo build, and the game and refreshingly, it’s not the same mission.

Games like Call of Duty made grenades a more interesting resource that was available in abundance. A small ball of explosives and shrapnel was never far away, to the point where attempting to throw a grenade as revenge in the final milliseconds before death caught up to you became second nature. Grenades are pretty much an afterthought in the genre, albeit an expected feature. Call of Duty WW2 wants to change those expectations, especially in the audio department.

The Crew 2 adds more vehicles - but also more vehicle types. No longer are we now limited to different cars but we can now also take a variety of boats on the vast waterways of the world or if the sky is your preferred playground you can grab yourself an aeroplane and take to the skies. What's even more entertaining though is that you can literally swap vehicles on the fly.

I briefly remember seeing a trailer for Transference at E3 this year but I have to be honest and admit that I completely forgot about it and moved my attention on to the more expected blockbusters of the year like Far Cry 3, Call of Duty or Need For Speed. However while at Gamescom this year our Ubisoft contact managed to get me some hands on, or is that rather face on, with their upcoming Virtual Reality Psychological Thriller, Transferen

It felt like it was coming, but this weekend PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds did the impossible by beating out Dota 2's player count on Steam.
