By Geoffrey Tim

When the current crop of VR hardware first appeared, you could barely shake your controller without hitting a wave-based shooter or a proof-of-concept demo about spellcasting. It doesn’t need to be the best-looking game on the block, merely a satisfying power trip that gives you a sandbox to play in and plenty of explosions to hurl at anyone who gets in your way. Plus, having the 99’s Sergeant Terry Jeffords as the hero of the single-player campaign, makes for a pretty enticing product.

Love it or hate it, but Anthems bullet sponges are best tackled when with a gang of Freelancers as opposed to lone wolfing it. There’s nothing to stop you from turning off matchmaking and doing a solo hotdog run, but here’s the kicker: Stick to a squad and you won’t just have the satisfaction of digital socialising, you’ll also find some better incentives along the way.

It looks like a proper version of the first Borderlands is on the way to current-gen consoles, complete with all of the ludicrous DLC campaigns that made it so memorable back in 2009.
