Technically, plenty of video games allow you to do just that, albeit in a manner that breaks reality worse than Thanos on a bad day. Drift 19 aims to be that game, as developer ECC Games say that their project “all about building and tuning your ultimate drifting machine and riding it on demanding tracks from all around the World."

2018 may have been a brilliant year for gaming, but here’s the thing: Nobody wants to remember the good times. Instead, we’re hardwired to automatically complain when given the chance, and the year that was had no shortage of absolutely valid complaints. You look back at the last trip around the gigantic ball of flaming gas that gives us life, and there was plenty to hate on.

While the upcoming third season of Netflix's retro-tastic breakout sci-fi drama is still shrouded in much mystery, we now know one thing about it: We can play it in a classic 16-bit co-op game.

Temperatures plummet, almost all signs of life vanish. If you’re not inside a bunker with food, clean water and board-games, you are f… doomed.

This week, Epic Games teased their impending games store. The biggest differentiator between Epic’s store and the existing, ubiquitous Steam is that Epic is offering developers and publishers a flat 88% cut of the sales, taking just 12% themselves. That’s a lot less than Steam takes with its own 30% cut, that’s tiered to benefit bigger publishers. Now, that store has launched – but it’s very limited at the moment.

We saw the glory of a war god reborn, we felt the joy of navigating through New York City while spinning webs and we faced stories of a personal nature on a scale that may have been more indie in design but was truly epic in scope. How do you even begin to sum up 2018? How do you condense a year’s worth of gaming into any single rewards category? Well the Game Awards 2018 certainly did just that, with results that probably weren’t surprising.

Counter-Strike: GO is still the preeminent shooter game when it comes to competitive play and esports. Compared to games like Fortnite though, it doesn’t have nearly the player base that Fortnite does. Perhaps trying to emulate that game a little, Counter-Strike: GO now has a Battle Royale mode…and has also gone free-to-play.

Rage 2! Possibly the best vehicle for Andrew W.K’s music since Jackass convinced me that self-inflicted bodily harm was a great way to have fun. In a night that seemed very very focused on the apocalypse, Rage 2’s take on life after the fall of society may just be the silliest and colourful exploration of a world gone mad.
