Hollow Knight is an incredibly rich and detailed game with a massive world to explore. One that was even larger than it is now before a host of content was cut for time.

Trekking through the Infinite Forest felt more like a slog than an actual adventure, with its supposedly random simulations of possible timelines being predictable gauntlets of enemies. The latest incarnation of the Festival of the lost changes all that, for the better. Not only is Destiny 2 really taking advantage of the season of spookiness, it’s also offering players a remix of an underutilised area that deserves better.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is a lovely game. While I didn’t especially like some of the open-world fluff in the webhead’s adventures, or some of that forced stealth nonsense, the game more than ably told its story – while also being a delight to play. Swinging around Insomniac’s condensed, idealised version of Manhattan was an absolute delight – leading many to want to do it all again, even though they’ve played the game to completion, with the Platinum trophy to show for it. The impending New Game Plus would be perfect for that – but unfortunately it’s been slightly delayed.

So where is it? Like all good things in life, getting to the sweet undead nugget of narrative strategy has taken some considerable time to develop.

While it’s currently one of the biggest games in the world right now, Fortnite is hardly the poster child for esports or competitive gaming. That is something epic is intent on changing though, with the game set to eventually become a large-scale competitive title. That progression begins today, with the introduction of in-game Tournaments. Announced last week, they’re in the game thanks to today’s 6.10 patch.

Duke Nukem Forever should have been the final chapter in a series that was expected to be explosive when it was eventually released. Instead, Duke went out with less of a bang and more of a whimper in his final stab at greatness.
