Welcome to the weekly wrap-up! You asked for it, we hired a flunky on Fiver to write it and I put the backbreaking effort of putting my name on the byline to complete it!

In the year of 2019, we’ve already seen one meme briefly rise to prominence, in the form of Naruto’s Sasuke having the life choked out of him by everyone from your mom to anime legend Hiyao Miyazaki. A good first start to the pop culture crap-posting nature of the internet, but I think we’ve already found our true breakout star of the year. Motherlovin’ Shaggy from Scooby Doo

The most wonderful thing about cosplay, is that anyone can do it and anyone can be anyone else. There’s a global community out there, made up of fans and people who have turned their passion into a career. It doesn’t matter what your skill level is or how much experience you have either, as everyone starts from square one and builds on that burgeoning talent. But sometimes, you might not have the time or the equipment to create a costume from scratch. I get that it can be daunting. I understand that some times, you just want to go have fun and be in character. Fortunately, websites like Procosplay are here to help. If you’re looking for a costume in a hurry, they’ve got your back.

I love cooking. Like, really love cooking. I’ve even made some amateur-level videos on how to cook, although the addition of my friend Trevor means that the end product is usually only ‘just edible’. Spotify is going to keep my ears safe. The company is busy testing a new feature that’ll allow users to block or mute specific artists. According to the Verge, the new feature will bock an artist entirely, so “that songs from the artist will never play from a library, playlist, chart list, or even radio stations on Spotify.”

For DC’s Shazam, which is basically what happens when somebody makes a Superman movie where the main character isn’t a sulking superhuman whose greatest strength is creeping people out with a CGI top lip, that wardrobe cost was pretty high. In fact, it cost the better part of $1 million to make each of the Shazam costumes. Each of them, as the flick wound up with ten super-suits for the film shoot.

Mastercard has made a nice consumer-centric move that should help put an end to some of the more predatory recurrent subscription services.

While it’s not unusual for people to have a small lapse in etiquette when it comes to mingling with cosplayers (think photography sniping and mishandling delicate props c’mon folks don’t be a Melvyn), there are those people who take things a step too far and start inappropriately touching cosplayers and try to grab dirty pictures using foot cameras. And then there are those people who clearly need some help.
